RULES AND CONDITIONS OF THE COMPETITION
The Ninth Alexander Frauchi International Guitar Competition (hereinafter referred to as the “Competition”) will be held in Moscow from November 2 through November 8, 2025.
First Round will be held online in virtual format from August 11 through August 27, 2025.
The founding parties: Alexander Frauchi Regional Public Foundation for Guitar Arts (hereinafter – “Organizer”), Gnessins’ Russian Academy of Music.
1.1. The Competition is open for professional guitar players, students of guitar classes of higher educational institutions, regardless of nationality, with no age limitation.
1.2. Application must be submitted online through the official website of the Competition alexanderfrauchi.com by 23:59 Moscow Standard Time (UTC+3) on August 5, 2025.
1.3. No entries submitted after August 5, 2025 will be considered.
1.4. The application is regarded as accepted one only in case the applicant receives a confirmation on the e-mail address specified in the application.
1.5. An application signed by applicant is an indication of the future participant’s full acceptance of the conditions set hereby and his/her obligation to observe them.
2.1. The Competition contests comprise three rounds:
FIRST ROUND (in virtual format, via video recordings)
17 minutes maximum total performance time
2.1.1. Links to the video recording of the First Round will be accepted only by 23:59 Moscow Standard Time on August 8.
2.1.2. No videos received after the specified time will be considered, and no entry fee refund will be made.
2.1.3. First Round videos may be posted on the Competition’s website, official Competition’s YouTube channel, on other video hosting services and on official Competition’s Partners’ channels. The terms and procedure of publication will be determined by the Organizer.
2.1.4. The results of the First Round will be posted on the official website of the Competition on August 27, 2025.
2.2. Video recording requirements:
2.2.1. While recording the video for the First Found, the participant is obliged to have the logo of the Ninth Alexander Frauchi International Competition, in printed form or a tablet with the logo clearly visible on the screen. The logo will be sent to each applicant upon the application confirmation.
2.2.2. The participant’s both hands and face must be clearly visible on the recording, the upper body should occupy approximately 75 % of the frame. The recording shall be accompanied by a proper light, there should be no intrusive noise and other loud sounds distracting from listening to the participant.
2.2.3. The program should be performed without stopping the camera between the pieces (joining separate video files or editing video is not allowed). The participant must be in the same position in front of the camera for the entire period of recording. The frame position should be horizontal (landscape).
2.2.4. The competition video performance should be recorded without any sound processing whatsoever (no artificial reverberation effects is allowed) or video processing (video editing, frames joining, titles). No edited video recordings will be accepted for the Competition.
2.2.5. The performance program, the order of the pieces, as well as the duration of the performance on the video recording must comply with the Competition’s conditions.
2.2.6 The video recording should be uploaded to one of the cloud storages (Google Drive, Dropbox, Mail.ru Cloud, Yandex Disk) and the link has to be provided to the Organizing Committee.

SECOND ROUND (in live format)
20 minutes maximum total performance time
A required long-form piece, in case it consists of more than one movement (multi-part), must be performed in full, while the performance of one movement only, or of some of the movements only is not allowed.
It is allowed to perform only one long-form piece in the Second Round, in case it takes up all the allotted time of the round entirely.

The study score of any piece from the list can be sent by e-mail upon the participant’s request.
2.3. First Round of the Competition will be held in virtual format, while Second Round and the Final Round will be held in live format.
2.4. All pieces must be performed from memory with the exception of obligatory concerto in the Final Round. Obligatory concerto for the guitar and orchestra in the Final Round can be performed with the score.
2.5. Pieces from any round may not be repeated in other rounds.
2.6. Eighteen participants will advance to the Second Round**. Five (5) participants will advance to the Final Round.
** The number of the participants of the Second Round may be reduced or increased (up to no more than two persons) upon the decision of the Organizing Committee when approved by all the Members of the Jury.
2.7. Performance order of the Second and the Final Rounds will be determined by random draw at registration before the Second Round once only and retained all through the Competition.
2.8. After the application is accepted, no changes of the submitted program are allowed. It may only be changed upon the special approvement of the Competition organizing committee.
3.1. A non-refundable registration fee of 9.500 Russian rubles (EUR 100) should be paid through by the Applicant. Payment details will be provided to the Applicant by the Organizer after submitting the application.
The amount of the registration fee does not include bank charges. All the banking transfer fees are to be paid by Applicants.
* Winners (First Prize laureates) of the major international guitar competitions (according to the list* below) are free of paying the registration fee.
3.2. All those foreign and non-resident participants of the Competition who de facto live outside Moscow and outside the Moscow region who are advanced to the Second Round and took part in it will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of costs paid for hotel, hostel, or dormitory stay during the time of the Competition (arrival date November 2, 2025, departure date November 9, 2025), but not exceeding the amount of 35.000 (thirty five thousand) rubles against the payment supporting documents (cash receipt, paid-in booking).
3.3. All those foreign and non-resident participants of the Competition who are advanced to the Final Round will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of costs paid for travelling from their place of residence (de facto residence) to the city of Moscow and back, against the payment supporting documents (train ticket, air ticket, intercity bus), but not exceeding 50.000 (fifty thousand) rubles, besides the scholarship for participation in the Second Round. In case a participant of the Final Round arrives to Moscow not from the city of his/her actual residence and/or departs from Moscow to a city other than the city of his/her actual residence, there will be paid an average cost of travel from the participants’ city of residence to Moscow and back. Each case would be considered by the Organizer individually.
4.1. The Organizing Committee of the Ninth FRAUCHI Competition announces the prizes as follows:
FIRST PRIZE and the Diploma of Laureate of the Competition
SECOND PRIZE and the Diploma of Laureate of the Competition
THIRD PRIZE and the Diploma of Laureate of the Competition
Participants of the Final Round, who did not become laureates of the First, Second or Third Prize, will be awarded with the Honorary Diploma.
4.2. Other awards and prizes established by government, commercial, public or creative organizations, both Russian and foreign, may be announced later upon agreement with the Organizing Committee. Such awards should be approved by the Organizing Committee no later than the Competition start date.
5.1. The Competition jury will comprise prominent musicians from different countries.
5.2. The jury has the right to divide any prize between the participants of the Final Round, except for the First Prize. The jury may award not all the prizes.
5.3. The jury has the right to stop a performance if the player has exceeded the time limit of the Second Round specified in the conditions. The time countdown starts at the moment when the participant starts to play the first piece, and the countdown does not stop for pauses between the pieces or between parts of a multi-part composition (pauses are included in the timing). Stopping of the performance of a participant who has exceeded the time limit will not affect the participant’s results and will not cause a disqualification.
5.4. Scores of the Final Round determine the results of the Competition. Scores of each Round are not added to the scores of the following rounds and have effect on the results of the present Round only.
5.5. The jury has the right to request a participant to provide the music scores of any of the pieces he/she performs at the Competition.
5.6. Decisions made by the jury are final and not subject to re-consideration and/or appeal.
6.1. The rights for audio and video recordings, TV and Internet broadcasts of the participants’ performances at the Competition belong exclusively to the organizers of the Competition. The Competition participants are not entitled to any fees neither for performing at the Competition nor for any further use of the recordings of these performances and their broadcasts.
6.2. The Organizer has exclusive rights, covering all countries, for broadcasting, audio/video recording, publication, production, reproduction and distribution of any materials related to the Competition and Festival, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the Competition, competition performances and auditions, pre-selection materials, masterclasses, performances with orchestra, etc. The Organizer has the exclusive right to use the photo/audio/video materials listed above free of charge and without obtaining the permission of the Competition’s participants, including of those who took part in master classes and concerts during the Competition.
6.3. The Organizer has the right to transfer the rights specified in clause 6.1. – 6.2 to third parties.
6.4. Participation in the Competition means acceptance in full of all the terms and conditions of the Competition. In case of violation of the terms by the participant of the Competition, the Organizer reserves the right to deprive the participant of the Final Round cash prize, the Honorary Diploma or the title of Laureate of the Competition.
6.5. Participants from the foreign countries who need a visa for entering the territory of the Russian Federation will be provided with an official invitation, sent upon their request, in order for them to obtain a visa at the consulate of the Russian Federation in the country of which the participant is a citizen.
6.6. The winners (First Prize laureates) of the previous FRAUCHI Competitions are not eligible for participation in this one or any of the following FRAUCHI Competitions.
6.7. In the event of any dispute arising from interpretations of the conditions set hereby, the text in Russian language will prevail.
