The founder of the International Alexander Frauchi Competition and Festival is Maria Latinskaya-Frauchi (1955-2015).
With the passing of Alexander Frauchi, the Russian guitar school suffered a huge loss, and since 2009, the goal of the competition and festival has been to continue the work laid down by the famous musician and teacher. The goal of the Frauchi Foundation is to educate a young generation of talented guitarists. This is possible only through communication with brilliant masters of guitar art, recognized throughout the world, borrowing their experience through master classes, lessons and, of course, attending their concerts.
The competition and festival are a huge incentive for young guitarists to practice this beautiful, but still difficult instrument, to conquer the heights of the musical Olympus and strive for high mastery.
Alexander Kamilovich Frauchi was born on January 4, 1954, into a musician’s family in the ancient city of Rostov-Yaroslavsky, of which he is an honorary citizen.
His father, Kamil Arturovich Frauchi, a violinist and student of Elizaveta Fabianovna Gnesina, was a graduate of the Gnessins’ State Musical Pedagogical Institute, and later became an outstanding teacher.
Alexander Frauchi took his first steps in the musical field under the guidance of his father. He acquired further professional skills from the famous guitarist Alexander Ivanov-Kramskoy and his daughter Natalia Ivanova-Kramskaya in the high school at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky. He continued his studies at the Sverdlovsk State Conservatory named after Mussorgsky in the class of Professor V. M. Derun.
At that time, there was no guitar class in the higher musical educational institutions of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The name of Alexander Frauchi is associated with the opening of a guitar class at the Gnessin Institute in 1980.
Since then, he has trained more than 100 winners of all-Russian and international competitions.
In 1979, Alexander Frauchi became the winner of the All-Russian Competition of Folk Instruments Performers in Leningrad (St. Petersburg), and in 1986 he was awarded the Grand Prix, First Prize, Audience Award and the Radio France Prize at the Third International Leo Brouwer Competition in Havana.
In 2004, Frauchi was awarded the Fatherland Defense Order, 1st degree, for the culture and art achievements.
His creative life, filled with Russian concert tours, recordings on TV, radio, and teaching, was supplemented by concerts in Germany, Poland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Finland, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy (where Aalexander Frauchi was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Catanzaro), the U.K., France, Greece, Cyprus, the USA, Belgium, and Switzerland, where he played solo with orchestras. Alexander Frauchi participated in the jury of all-Russian and international competitions and festivals and conducted master classes.
Alexander Frauchi supplemented his solo repertoire with pieces for duet with harpsichord and piano. His permanent partner was Maria Latinskaya. With his help, guitar classes were opened in higher and secondary music educational institutions in Vilnius, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Kharkov, Minsk, Rostov-on-Don, Kaliningrad.
In 1993, Alexander Frauchi opened a class and founded a department at the Maimonides State Classical Academy in Moscow, at the Gnessin Ten-Year School, and also in Sudan, where his students now teach.
